Fuzzy Friends in Seattle!

Living | Friends of ferrets to the rescue! | Seattle Times Newspaper

From what I've read Ferrets are the 3rd most popular pet behind Dogs and Cats. I'm hoping people will read up more on these furry, funny animals before purchasing them for someone. But since that rarely happens with Dogs and Cats I kinda doubt it will happen with Ferrets. So since that won't happen, I hope the shelters can better supported by the community and government in which they exist.

Augusta Sew Day

We had our first Augusta sew day on Saturday and it was fun. We had lots of food too. We managed to start almost 50 bedding items and finish around 35. After the helpers took the ones they earned as well as purchased we had over 20 to give to the shelter. That was really good for 10 people and only 6 hours or so of real work. Had lots of fun fuzzy time too.
Sue started the assembly with the matching fabric and fleece. Then it was me with the cutting. Back to Sue for the initial pinning, then over to Florence or one of the other sewers for the initial stich. After that it was pinned again by Rita then passed over to Karen or one of the others for the stich around. Mom then flipped it inside out and poked the corners out. After that the hole is stitched by one of the sewers and handed back to be folded appropriately for hammie or sleep sack, the clips added and pinned. Then the final stitch is done and its finished.
We ended up with lots of leftover food and drinks which we ate the next day for lunch and will probably be eating for the rest of the week. Everyone had fun including Ann's mom who had so much fun she volunteered her home for the next sew day and said she would come to the next intown sew day. Pretty cool, no? And thats even after I forced her downstairs to help out.
Fun stuff...

Augusta Meetup

"Your Ferrets stink!"
I've heard that so many times it's no longer funny. But now I can tell them that my ferrets smell better than whole ferrets. Thats right, for our meet up we got to hold whole(non-fixed...broken?) hobs at the Savannah Lakes Ferretry. Which is run by Mike and Arita.

Now before I continue let me tell you that our biggest ferret is Snap (now called Gordita) who weighs in around 2-3 lbs. But she's fat. Most of our other ferrets are around 2 lbs. They have an odor about them, but so does everyone else.

However, the whole hobs at SLF are HUGE! Weighing in at 5 lbs! Long, muscular, big headed and STINKY! Well, ok, so its not so much stinky as musky. They were busy putting off their wonderful odiferous smell to attract the jills. Unfortunatly, the Jills wernt ready for them. Their two big boys were brothers, but when we were there they were more interested in beating each other up than brotherly love.

After playing with the ferts we ate chips and dip while watching a movie about the Ohio ferret show. Lots of cool stuff and lots of information about showing ferrets. One thing I learned is that just about all of our ferrets will lose points because they are "squirmy". But thats ok, I like them just the same.

Christmas Party

We had a Ferret Meetup/Christmas Party this last Sunday and it went pretty well. Lots of people came and we had lots of fun playing with the little fuzzies. People from my work came as well and they had their first "real" expirence with the ferrets.
We even gave out door prizes which included some reindeer ornamenets, a pair of bears, a snowman, and three sets of crochetted eggs for the ferret people if they wanted to try and win them.
Unfortunalty all the people I had wanted to play halo with arrived at different times or couldnt make it. So instead I played seperate games with them, but it was still fun. We have another party to go to on wednesday for my office. I'll let you know how that goes later this week.
Things don't always go how you plan them, but in the end they usually turn out pretty well. Merry Christmas!

Ferret Meetup

Well the First Augusta Area meetup was today and despite the dreary looking weather, someone came. That someone was Rita Morrett from the Savannah Lakes Ferretry in McCormick, South Carolina. Aside from her it was just me and Ann, Kris and Ceaser, Kris' mom Donna, and Ann's parents, Ron and Kathy. But let's not forget all the little fuzzbutts: Lupi, Dewey, Rainbow, Skittles, Snap, Pearl, Gandalf, Samweis, Oreo, Sunshine, and Buddy. The last two belong to Kris.

Ron brought along some frisbee/disc golf discs and we played with those while waiting for people to show up. I learned that I am not very good at Disc Golf. I've decided to stick to Frisbee. Ron and Ceaser were a little better. There were some other disc golfers going around the park and they were good, there was no way I could throw a disc as far and straight as they were throwing them.

After the others showed up we talked ferrets, ate sammiches and drank soft drinks. Learned a lot about ferret stuff from Rita since she is a ferret breeder and has shown ferrets before at shows. I learned that my ferret, Lupi, is a Sable Mitt. ^.^

After an hour or so things wound down and people started going home. First Ron and Kathy then Rita, and finally the rest of us. All in all it was good day. Hopefully next time we will have more people there and can do more stuff.

The preparations begin...

Since we are starting a Ferret Meetup in the Augusta area we are starting to get the things together for the big day.
Unfortunatly we haven't had anyone RSVP to us about being there, so either there will be no one else there or there will be lots of people and not a lot of food. When it boils down to it I hope there are more people than food.
Tomorrow begins the baking of cookies and stuff for the meet up. I'll post again after the meet up about how things went and what all happened.

At the moment however we are taking a break. Two of the neighborhood kids are staying the night so they are down stairs playing games while I write this. I was hoping to play Halo2 with them, but they currently seem content to play Knights of the Old Republic. From what I saw of the game, it didn't look like anything I would want to play, but I wasn't playing so I can't be 100% sure of that.

Not too much else happening lately. Still don't think I have the site style how I like it, and even if I did I would have to do more work to hook it up to the rest of my site. Since I've never had a blog before I don't really know what all to use it for. I'm guessing it's kind of like a diary only a heck of a lot less private. I suppose for now I'll use it like a soapbox and voice my opinion on various issues to anyone willing to listen. Some people may like what I have to say and some may not, but that's just how things go. If you have a differing opinion then, please, post a comment and we can start a discussion, presenting both of our sides not to convince eachother which is right but to allow others a better view and let them decide for themselves which they feel is right.

Another thing I want to do with this blog is post up my character comments which at the moment show up on the main page only: http://adrian.haager.net/ Haven't had time to sit down and find out how I will get that working but it will probably end up being the same way I have it on the main site. Wish I had those Emoticons done for the people like I wanted. Maybe that will be my next art project.....
